type='text'>JOE SHARPE

Who are you and where do you come from?
My name is Joseph Sharpe and I come Macclesfield just outside Manchester.

How old are you and what do you do with your life?
I'm 19 and I am currently studying Photography at Manchester Met University, where I live and try to work.

How long have you been taking photos for?
From a very early age, but I only realised my love for it a few years ago, after a holiday to France, photographs always felt like special objects to me.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
I'm interested in everything and everyone around me, friends mainly as well as today's youth culture. My love for music equals my love for photography, lyrics and strange sounds seem to inspirer me a lot. Memories help.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Not a lot, no. I feel planning an image takes away the idea of photography for me, though I understand planning for shoots is vital, in my opinion photography is about capturing the interesting unplanned moments which happen in my life.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
Film every time. I've got a digital camera but I don't use it, unless it's needed. I love vintage cameras. I love the mechanically sounds that come from traditional cameras. I can't wait to get my Nikon F!

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
Simple//Snap//Shots

What interests do you have other than photography?
Nothing really interests me as much. Although I love art as a whole, good music, my friends&family and basketball now and then.

How do you spend your weekends?
I spend my weekends trying to get hold of some money to have a good weekend. Taking photos when I get a chance and generally spending time with people who are important to me. I don't sleep much.

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
I get most of my new music from friends but here's some songs that are blooming brilliant.
16 bit - twice (little dragon)
Doves - jetstream
Bibio - fire ant
nouvelle vague - dance with me.

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
FLICKR: flickr.com/joe_sharpe
BLOG: eatingmygreens.blogspot.com/

AMIINA

Amiina are a Icelandic musical quartet. The four main members are Hildur Ársælsdóttir, Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir, Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, and Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir. They have been playing together since the late 90s.

If I could describe their music with a scene in a movie it would be of a lonely wolf walking around the snow trying to find it's lost family. It's strange that I can compare the bands music to that of a lost wolf but at the same time I can compare it to strong feelings of optimism. It depends what state of mind you are in when you first start to listen to Amiina. The emotion can go either way.

I had a chat to Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir of Amiina about their work:

Firstly, where are you all from?
We're all from Reykjavík, Iceland

Amiina is an interesting word. Does it mean anything in particular?
Well, it sort of gradually evolved from the word "anima" which was the name we used back when we were a string quartet studying in the Reykjavík College of Music

How long has everyone been playing together for?
We've worked together since the late 1990s...

I have read you all like to use a variety of different and unusual instruments. Is there any instrument that any of you would love to use in future projects? If so, why would you like to use them?
A full range glass-harmonica is something we'd love to try. We have a simple "glassophone" a good friend of ours made for us, but a big glass-harmonica would be really exciting to play.

Where do you find influences to create music. Could it be memories, nature, movies etc?
We pick up influences everywhere. It definitely doesn't have to be music related.

When creating music do you usually follow a step plan or do you all just let it come naturally?
When creating a new piece of music it's all in the flow. Later on when we're in the recording studio it's more likely that we follow some sort of plan.

You have recorded work with other icelandic band Sigur Rós, how was this experience for you? Do you all enjoy working with other artsits that share similair interests?
Our work with Sigur Rós the past 10 years has meant a lot to us, musically and otherwise. We always have fun working with the guys.
Collaboration in general is important to us. It's so rewarding to team up with other artists, getting to know different ways of working and sharing ideas

What has been your favourite live show as Amiina?
It's hard to pick one... We had a great time this summer playing in palazzos in Italy, lighthouses in Iceland and a beautiful cathedral in Ireland. Generally we enjoy playing in interesting and beautiful locations.

Are there any new musicians or bands you have been enjoying recently?
Check out our fellow Icelandic bands Sin Fang Bous and a jazz trio called K-Tríó! They're excellent.

Besides Amiina, what do you all enjoy doing?
Lots of things... Picking blueberries and porcini mushrooms have been a favorite lately, comes with the season!

YOU CAN FIND AMIINA AT:
MYSPACE:myspace.com/amiina
WEBSITE:amiina.com/

FM BELFAST

Here is a catchy band from Reykjavík. They are called FM Belfast. I was lucky enough to have a chat with Árni Plúseinn about their music.

Interview with Árni Plúseinn of FM Belfast.

How did the band first come about making music together? How long has everyone been playing for?
In 2005 Lóa and Árni Plúseinn started making songs together after meeing at a market where Árni Plúseinn was making songs with the voice of the customer for 2 euro. Lóa had a song done with her vocal. Later that year we made a song as a Christmas present for friends which is Pump (pump up the jam cover)

Where do all of you come from?
We are all from Reykjavík, Iceland

What was your first live show as FM Belfast like?
the band played the first live show at Iceland Airwaves with two new members, Árni Vil and Örvar (múm) who are now full members of the band.

Does everyone contribute to making the songs? Or is it more like one person writes the lyrics while other members focus on how the song will sound?
The simple answer is that we all do everything.

I am enjoying the album "how to make friends" very much. What are your thoughts on it? Are you happy with the result?
We are very happy with the result. It is the product of friends helping each other to make something for little money and a lot of work.

Where do you find the most inspiration to writing and playing your music?
This question will never have an accurate answer but i think most of the music that inspires us is something we listened to when we ware 13 years old or so.

What kind of instruments do you bring to a live show?
We bring a computer + controlling devices, 4 microphones and a lot of nonsense.

What has been your favourite experience as FM Belfast so far?
It's hard to say since we often feel our last show was the best yet. And our memory works about as well as a goldfish

What does everyone else like to do besides playing music together?
We mostly do the music but we also run a bar in Reykjavík called Karamba. Lóa's sister owns the place but we make sure it's running smoothly and dj's are playing good/fun music.

Lastly, Do you have any more new music in production?
We are always working on something but we now we are working on the release of "how to make friends" in the rest of the world since it has just been released in Iceland up until now.

YOU CAN FIND THEM AT:
SITE: myspace.com/fmbelfast
MYSPACE: fmbelfast.com/

Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek

Who are you and where do you come from?
I'm Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek. Well, the "de Koekkoek" part is very new! I've had the great pleasure to got the
most wonderful woman with a perfect dutch surname. We married in June. I'm such a lucky guy!

I grew up in the mountains of Austria - Tirol to be precise. A couple of years ago I went to Vienna
with the idea to explore a bit more of Austria and start up a business besides tourism, weddings and passport
picture shooting.

How old are you and what do you do with your life?
I'm 26 and try to follow my dreams as good as possible. I own a little photo studio in the creative heart of Vienna -
the MuseumsQuartier and am happy to earn my bucks with shooting pictures.

How long have you been taking photos for?
Seriously since about three years. I don't want to tell you the good old "when I was five, my grandpa gave me his
photo camera" story again. ;)

Where do you find the most inspiration?
I spent way too much time in the net browsing inspiring photographers all around the globe. Recently I fall in love
with http://therefore-photography.blogspot.com/ - it's all you need! But I also love to look at prints and magazines.
Nothing fancy.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Most of them are snapshots. But sometimes I have an idea I want to shoot. Best is to have an idea and build a range where
spontanos things can happen.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
Film (when ever its possible).

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
authentic, spontaneous, real

What interests do you have other than photography?
love my dog peter and my wife.

How do you spend your weekends?
depends on where i am. if i'm together with my wife and peter we hang out in the forest or on the water. if i'm at home alone
i drink all night long with my friends and sleep during the days ;)

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
there was a beautiful radio session of makossa and sugar b. last saturday night which safed my life and kept me awake
while driving home after a hard day of shooting in the mountains of austria. Over the years I have listened to them and the amount of memories and feelings they have made me feel through their powerful music is countless. Their sounds can vary between something deeply personal as well as introverted, like a tiny whispers, to thundering instruments with vocals reaching out and touching you as you listen.

The first Efterklang CD I bought was 2004's Tripper. After listening to the whole CD from start to finish I was compelled to listen to it again and again. I had never heard such beautifully constructed songs. Quiet beats at the start of the songs set up the entire mood as an interesting ride of different musical styles. All the different styles seem to however have precise composition and fit together perfectly. The vocals on the tracks were so organic and personal it would be impossible for me to not skip the song. The emotion put into each song could clearly be felt as I listened excessively to each track.

They have released three EP's and one album, 2007's Parades, since Tripper and each has had the same powerful consistency that has gained Efterklang musical respect all over the world. After finishing an amazing world tour for the Parades album Efterklang have been busy recording their new album so I thought now would be a great time to do a quick interview with an amazing group of guys.

Interview answered by Rasmus Stolberg of Efterklang

How long have you all been playing together for?
we played our first concert under the name Efterklang in Copenhagen March 6th 2003. The lineup has pretty much stayed the same since allthough Rune Mølgaard is more like secret member now as he does not tour with us.

we started the project in December 2000 and before that some of us have played in other projects. Mads and I formed our first band together around 91 when we 10 years old.

Do you have much preparation before a live show?
we prepare a lot before a tour and then the shows are sort of back to back day after day.
Last time we took a lot of time out of the calendar to rehearse was two years ago just before we started touring with Parades.
Then of course you evolve things on the road and you go into rehearsal when you can

We look forward to January and February 2010. This is when we will begin preparing our new live setup for the third album touring

What has been the highlight of Efterklang so far?
there are so many. Everytime we travel to a new country or city and find people there that we can relate to and who like our music then we feel like the luckiest band on earth

What were your expectations with Parades, were you surprised with how well received it was?
yes and no. We are modest people, but to be honest I did feel that Parades was something special :-)
Before the release we sat down and wrote down all these things we would like to achieve with the Parades release. Where we would like to tour and so on.
A year and half later all the things on our list had materialzed. That felt really powerful to experience

You are in the process of recording a new album right now, the follow up to 2007's Parades, will this be different from the other Efterklang records?
this might be the most extrovert Efterklang album to date. We have used more classical song structure, lots of drums and Casper has stepped up as the front singer like we know him from our live concerts. It is also a collection of songs rather than a whole piece that you need to listen to from start to finish to enjoy.

What other interests do the rest of the band have besides playing music?
we also release music and we listen to music and we record and compose music :-)
besides from this I don´t think we have other interests except for our girlfriends of course!

Finally, what have you all been listening to recently that you can't get out of your head?
Peter Broderick is playing a new song on this tour we are currently on (he supports the concerts). It is called Everything is Small and I can´t get it out of my head.
Besides that I think the latest Dirty Projectors album is essential. A little late I have also started to pick up on Arthur Russell recently

YOU CAN FIND THEM AT:
WEB SITE: www.efterklang.net/
MYSPACE: www.myspace.com/efterklang
TWITTER: www.twitter.com/Efterklang
FLICKR PHOTOBLOG: www.flickr.com/photos/efterklang-recordings/

my surreptitious affair

A couple of friends and myself were photographed for this new perth street fashion blog. So Pogo? What's the origin of that name? Have you ever had a different one?

The name came about from a comic strip series I used to draw as a child. I had conceptualised a species of ball shaped creatures made of a yellow goo that could suck their arms and legs into their bodies and fly. Each had its own super power, and could be sucked into a canister that fits in the palm of your hand. I called them Pogos for some unthinkable reason. When I started making music and posting it to my friends via our Internet forum, I adopted this name as my pseudonym and it has stuck with me ever since. It's short, catchy and easy to remember.

2. Where do you come from and when did you start making music?

I became fascinated with making music when my music teacher at school introduced me to MIDI sequencing. The technology was hard to come by for a 10-year old, so I'd sit in my bedroom tediously composing music using a keyboard, microphone and twin-deck tape recorder. Shortly after, my friends and I found success as a rock band in which I drummed, winning several talent quests and earning a position in the Pepsi Smoke-Free Rock Quest of 1999. I discovered a Playstation game called 'Music 2000', and immediately, I knew music production would be a hobby of mine for many years to come. Today, I use Audition and FLStudio, and you can find my work on several websites including MySpace, YouTube and Last.fm.

3. What has inspired you to make this sort of music? And how has your music evolved since you first started performing under the name Pogo?

For as long as I can remember, I have always detected small sounds in musical arrangements that appeal to me. I find myself with a natural desire to hear those sounds over and over. During my teenage years, it seemed logical for me to record these sounds and sequence them to form new pieces of music. I discovered artists like Akufen and Farben were employing this technique as well, but I wanted to produce music of a less abstract and more melodious nature, so I bought a copy of 'Oliver!' on DVD to work with and developed my style from there. Since then, my music has become more structured and complex.

4. I have seen many of your videos on youtube, they are very interesting, I haven't seen much of it done before. Could you describe your music-making process?

First and most importantly, I concentrate on producing a track that I can listen to regularly and enjoy. This process is all about composing with my ears. The essence of my work is to capture the elements of a scene or film that captivate me, and use them to make music that can love. Pulling a track together can take me anything from a few days to a few weeks. It depends largely on whether or not I'm in the zone, which oddly seems to occur mostly during the late hours of the night. Once I have developed my track substantially, I download it to my MP3 player and listen to it at my leisure. This phase is about enjoying and evaluating my track from the perspective of a casual listener, and it's often here that the imperfections and annoyances of my track stand out. After switching back and forth between production and listening modes, it's then time to produce a video. This is a process that requires a different way of thinking. When I'm editing, I'm constantly evaluating things like meaning, flow of motion, framing continuity and so on. It's a misconception that my track is the product of my video, while the idea of producing both at the same time would be chaos.

5. It seems to me that you enjoy mixing up various movies, what in your opinion was your favourite video to make?

It's a tough decision to make, but I had a lot of fun making 'Alohomora'. 'Harry Potter' is so energetic and appealing to the heart that making 'Alohomora' was practically a no-brainer. It's one of the few videos I've made that felt right from start to finish, and I'm so happy with how it turned out. For its structure, flow, rhythmic elements and warmth that it inherits from the film, I'd probably place my video for 'Alohomora' above the rest.

6. Your youtube hit "Alice" has hit over 3 million views. How does it feel to have your video been seen by so many people all over the word? Are you shocked that it has received the attention it has?

My first reaction was of absolute amazement. To suddenly turn around and find it acclaimed all over the Internet was a shock indeed. It's truly astounding to think that I've reached that many people emotionally and intellectually with one simple piece of music. What really baffles me is that I never intervened. 'Alice' was strapped to a rocket and took off entirely on her own. I think it really illustrates the power of the web, and I hope it proves to people as it does to me that the world is what we make it.

Alice - Pogo

7. What has been your biggest challenge as a DJ?

There have been several. Diving into live work was daunting for me because I had so much to learn in so little time. On top of that, it was a frustrating ordeal deciding what I wanted to do live. Fortunately, I slipped into mixing and beat matching quite well, and the experience became less of a shock to my nerves and more of a thrill that I knew I'd love all along. While it's an amazing experience to move a crowd with my music, the initial learning curve I had to climb right in front of them was an experience I'll never miss.

8. The music you make is quite exciting without visuals. But when paired up with the video to it the music seems to take a whole new meaning. Do you prefer to have the music played by itself or with its video?

I have mixed feelings about whether or not my tracks are dependent on their videos. Clearly, the Pogo experience with both ingredients is a must according to most people, but sometimes I feel as though your first viewing of the video can distract you from the wholeness and intricacy of the track its self. My videos are essential in that they explain what it is you're listening to, but I enjoy my tracks without them every day and don't consider them mediocre on their own at all.

9. How has your live shows been? Do you have any more live shows planned?

Oh, always. Playing live is a top priority. There's something very appealing to me about blasting my music into the air and watching everybody react to it. It gives me a high to draw my work out of the digital domain and into the atmosphere. In the future, though, I really want to make Pogo Live a memorable, immersive experience. I want to light myself and the entire booth with only my videos, and give the entire venue the same treatment with a spinning rig of projectors. At the same time, I could fill the enitre venue with bubbles or confetti. I really want to draw my work out of the digital domain and pump it into the atmosphere. Sharing my music and emotions with people is what playing live is all about, so rest assured you'll be seeing plenty of shows from me in the future.

10. Finally, how can your fans get a hold of your music? Do you have sample songs or a demo CD?

You can download my tracks for free from Last.fm. Legal restrictions prohibit me from releasing my work commercially, and I can not say when these issues will be resolved.
I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has shown me their support. It's always flattering to hear of someone enjoying my work. To know that it's affecting people's lives in such a positive way is truly inspiring. Peace to all and stay tuned!

Expialidocious - Pogo

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
LAST.FM: last.fm/music/Pogo
MYSPACE: myspace.com/pogotracks

RODRIGO

Who are you and where do you come from?
I'm Rodrigo (a.k.a. When I was 16, I did some photographies courses, and last year I bought my Nikon D80 for myself :)

Where do you find the most inspiration?
Mostly, in rain and music. Also in movies, books or just when I'm happy.

Do you plan many of your photos?
It depends.. I try not to plan them, but sometimes it's needed (location, model, make-up).

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
I love shooting with film, I also been in lomography. The colours and textures has no comparison, but I shoot more with digital, because of the prices and facility.

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
Vintage. Indie. Emotions.

What interests do you have other than photography?
As I said, I study advertising, but I also like music, the movies, the people. I'd like to study to be a film-director.

How do you spend your weekends?
I love going to concerts or just spend some times with my best friends. I also like being alone in my house, listening to music, and doing nothing.

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
New music? Mmmh.. Los Campesinos!, Jens Lekman, M83 are always in my head. Beautiful songs and great attitude.

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
FLICKR: flickr.com/photos/valledevalium
BLOG: robbix.tumblr.com
WEB ADDRESS: indiehoy.com
LAST.FM: last.fm/user/rodrix007

GOLD PANDA

Here's a new musician I've recently discovered. I'm studying Philosophy & working. Next October I'll be living in Florence for 6 months with a grant. I run Carpaccio Magazine with my lover Maria.

How long have you been taking photos for?
I've been taking photos for 7 years (since when I was 16.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
I find inspiration in poetry (Màrius Sampere, Paul Celan, Andreu Vidal, Baudelaire, Goethe, Rilke,...) and philosophy. Every time I read a poem my mind starts to be filled with images. What I'm trying to do is transform my mental images into photos.

Do you plan many of your photos?
No, I don't plan them. I just like to plan the places and the time. This way I can choose between the sea, the city, the river, the mountain... and I can choose what kind of light appear on my photos.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
Both. I love film. I love digital. Sometimes I think I prefer film, however the costs of developing a film make me shoot in digital.
I have to confess that when I shoot with digital I'm an analogic nostalgic.

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
Conceptual, lightful, loveful.

What interests do you have other than photography?
Poetry, philosophy, my lover & my future with her.

How do you spend your weekends?
Unfortunately I have to work all the weekends... I’m about to leave Europe to become either a photographer, a psychic or a semi frustrated musician

How long have you been taking photos for?
I’ve been taking pictures for a pretty long time, but set my heart on it probably 3 years ago.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
My friends, light, love, twilight, deep holes, teeth in the dark, black hair, unexplainable stuff, music, darkness, in faces.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Well some of them are staged, but never planned like that. I’m a pretty spontaneous photographer. That's were I still live.

Three words that describes your style.
Snapshot. Light. Moment.

What cameras do you like to shoot with?
I have a crazy collection of over 40 analog cameras and it's hard to decide on a few. At the moment I love to shoot with my Nikon F3, Polaroid SX-70, Zenza Bronica GS-1, Olympus Miju II, Yashica Electro 35...

What influences you to do what you do?
It sounds stupid, but I sometimes feel like I don't remember stuff as well as others do so I'm trying to document my everyday life this way. It's like writing a diary somehow...

What music are you into right now?
Wow, hard one, I listen to so much music... I love the new Wilco album, have listened a lot to M. Ward, The Smallest Man On Earth, Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago during winter and spring, love Propagandhi, Tom Waits, The Weakerthans, Arcade Fire, Ani DiFranco, The Notwist...

Any advice for other photographers?
Well, I'd say it's important to wait for the right moment. If you shoot digitally and are not super convinced about your pictures, try to go analog. It's more expensive and you'll probably get a better feeling for what/when to shoot and what/when not. Also I only shoot, if I feel the light is right... But yeah, you better ask Ryan McGinley, Lina Scheynius, Valeria Lazareva, Sophia Curtis, Elkie Vanstiphout, Sarah Hermans... :-) (Just to mention a few)

How did you get into photography?
When I was 15 years old my mother got a new SLR and my father gave me his old Pentax Super A with a 50mm/1.7 lens... One and a half years ago I started shooting more often and bought all of those cameras... Last year i took a b&w class and learned how to see things that i wouldn't really see before.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
As far as photos go, faces and light have seem to be my most recent muses. But I also love photos with little stories in them.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Mostly no. I think the majority of the pictures i take are from adventures friends and i take, or just random moments where i just so happen to have a camera on me.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
Film! it has so much more character. I'm actually mildly obsessed with it right now. One of my favorite things is developing a role and getting some of the images back with killer light leaks in them. Something digital could never do.

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
I don't really think i have a style, and if i do I'm unaware of it.

What interests do you have other than photography?
I love design and painting. I grew up around art so I love creating things. Thats one of the reasons I love to take pictures, its like almost instant art.

How do you spend your weekends?
I mostly work on the weekends. But when I'm off I usually try to be around friends. Laziness, Starbucks, adventures, street fairs and having fun doing nothing have been recent weekends.

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
Right now I cant stop listening to Beirut, Cold War Kids, MewithoutYou, Mew and any band from Iceland.

FLICKR: flickr.com/photos/greyowl/
WEB ADDRESS: greyowl.etsy.com

EDUARDO & Some photos I like could not have been done without him posing or helping.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Yeah, some. I find that pictures become more interesting with humans. So maybe I find a subject I like and then I get someone in the picture somehow. Spontaneity is overrated.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
Film.

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
Small Heavy Happy

What interests you other than photography?
Females, males, driving, buying stuff, and instruments.

How do you spend your weekends?
Slowly.

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
You know what i can't get out of my head? I can't get out of my head that we have no food in this house. Seriously there's only cereal and nuts and other stuff that is only there for show and not technically supposed to be eaten. Musically, I guess Rural Alberta Advantage and Dungen are aight.

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
FLICKR: flickr.com/lejjend

CAMERON ALEXANDER

Who are you and where do you come from?
I am Cameron Alexander and I am from the north west of England in a little town full of old people called Nantwich, I will be moving to London in september.

How old are you and what do you do with your life?
I am 18 years young in August. I am a photographer, so that takes up the majority of my time, with study and shooting away, but other than that for almost 2 years i was a columnist for sugar magazine, and I now write my own articles in my spare time until i hopefully get to work with a larger publication in London while i study at university.

How long have you been taking photos for?
Since i was given my first shitty/halfworking camera in 2001, Its only till about 3 years ago that i made it my best friend and career.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
Dirty carpets, mouldy food, people with gappy teeth, terrible tatoos, outsiders, dreams, music and the people in my neighbourhood.

Do you plan many of your photos?
Unless, I am doing fashion, or i have been set a brief for a publication or from my lessons, No i prefer to be completely un a ware of what i want to get untill i actually get it. That way its more exciting.

Which would you rather shoot with.. Film? or Digital?
I do shoot with both -depending on the shots I am aiming for, i.e- fashion [digital] and documentary [film]. But I mainly use film as I think its more authentic that way and what you see is what you get, thats the real beauty of photography.

How would you describe your photographic style in three words?
REAL. HONEST. EXPENSIVE

What interests do you have other than photography?
I also waste my time by: Writing, Running, Singing, Creating odd concocsions of food, Making clothes, Failing on games consoles.

How do you spend your weekends?
Either out shooting, out with the boyfriend, cleaning my room or annoying my mates.

Any new music you've been listening to and you can't get out of your head?
Micheal Jacksons music is everywhere, so I cant seem to shy away from hearing that, and then disposing of it. La roux also seems to be stuck in my head [for all the wrong reasons] and "Whos jocking jay"- by Jay-z

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
FLICKR: flickr.com/cameronalexander
BLOG: cameronalexander.tumblr.com

MICHAEL ROLPH

Who are you?
- Michael Rolph

What do you do?
- I'm currently studying photography at the university of Hertfordshire (in England).

Film or Digital?
- Film has more soul

Where do you come from?
- Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England

Three words that describes your style?
- detached, worthless, crap

What cameras do you like to shoot with?
- Anything that makes Photographers with expensive DSLR's look twice. Old cameras, toy cameras and homemade cameras. Medium format is lovely too, the square viewfinder makes hunting for symmetry so pleasurable.

What influences you to do what you do?
- Everything. Thomas Ruff, Jeff Wall, Adreas Gursky, Uta Barth, Candida Hofer, Steven Morrissey. Also medical and scientific photos as they are taken solely for their function and aesthetics aren't considered.

What music are you into right now?
- Can't stop listening to the smiths at the moment. So I work somewhere in between I suppose. I like to capture peoples emotions, expressions and movement. I like making a mess as well so I usually work with these ideas.

Do you work? study? lounge about?
I'm a student, just finished my A Levels, and I'm about to go onto do an Art Foundation this september.

Where do you find the most inspirations?
My friends, and other photographers. Richard Billingham for sure, I know there isn't a direct similarity between our work but I am in love with his 'Rays a laugh' book.
Others are Terry Richardson, Juergen Teller, Larry Clarke, and Nick Zinner's book 'I hope you are all happy now' was fucking great.
Wes Anderson films are magic. Spun by Jonas Åkerlund is full of cool photo opportunities...anyway I could go on forever...

How did you get into photography?
Initially from watching films all the time (which I still do), I used to pause certain films and think "wow that would make such a good photo". Then obviously when I started to study photography at college I was opened up to the photography world out there and I knew I wanted to be in it somewhere. The photography book cupboard at college was probably the biggest influence; it introduced me to what are now my favourite photographers and inspirations.

What would you rather use, film? or digital? ..Other?
Digital is always a win because it's cheaper and quicker, but I miss developing in the darkroom, I don't do it that often which is a shame. I love disposables so much though, I want to start literally taking them everywhere and keep a sort of photo diary, or maybe do a whole shoot on a disposable camera. I'm pretty gutted I didn't make good use out of polaroids when they were cheaper and easier to get hold of.

If you have any advice for young photographers, what would you tell them?
Not everyone will like your photos so don't let those who dont get you down.

Describe your work in 3 words.
not quite right

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
Flickr: ///racheal//crowther///

JOE WALKER

Who are you?
I’m Joe or Joseph, depending on how formal you want to be.

How old are you and where do you come from?
I’m eighteen and I live in the UK.

How would you describe your photographic style?
Simple and basic: I don’t use any extra lenses or equipment like a tripod whilst taking photos.

Do you work? study? lounge about?
I think the latter is probably the closest to what I’m doing at the moment; I’ve just finished college and I’m waiting to see if I have got into my university of choice.

Where do you find the most inspiration?
Definitely in my surroundings, that’s probably why I take few photos in England.

How did you get into shooting pictures?
Well, a couple of years ago whilst travelling on holiday I forgot my digital camera, so I had to buy a cheap disposable from a convenience store. When the film was developed, I realised how much I preferred film to digital, the colours were much deeper and brighter!

What would you rather use... film? or digital?
Film! The fun of pulling down the shutter cock and snapping your photos and the excitement of waiting for them to be developed far outweighs the convenience of digital.

What music are interested in right now?
I love Patrick Wolf’s new album ‘The Bachelor’, it’s fantastic! I’m really into (cheesy) French and Italian 60s pop as well, although you can’t really beat Björk!

If you have any advice for young people that want to get into what you do, what would you tell them?
Put down that digital SLR and get yourself a cheap plastic camera!

Describe your work in 3 words.
Colourful, simple and full-of-little-red-blotches.

YOU CAN FIND ME AT:
Flickr: flickr.com/photos/fakeyoga

ETHERMOON

Who are you?
>Hi. I'm TJ, also known as ethermoon in most of my online life. I'm 22 and I love classics, vintage and other stuffs of the past years.

What do you do?
>I am a graduate of BSN last year (2008) and currently doing my regular routine of review in school in preparation for the upcoming license exam here in our country.

Film or Digital?
>Tough question. I love film because it is so organic, I can feel the sensation every time I peek over the viewfinder. Film has a different taste. The thing we do in the past (that includes taking photos with film) will always be enjoyed, always be treasured even if we are now encapsulated inside a big jungle of technology and digital life. Digital is just a "happy orgasm" for instant and spontaneous takes.

Where do you come from?
>I came all the way from Asia, particularly in Philippines.

Three words that describes your style?
>Spontaneous, portraiture and mystery.

What cameras do you like to shoot with?
>For spontaneity and fast ejects, LC-A will be most likely the greatest camera being used. For treasured portraits, I am now loving my Seagull. Also, I am liking the Diana+ Instant Back. Instant film fun has never been the same like this one.

What influences you to do what you do?
>A mystery that would pop up inside my mind. Walking in the park and seeing objects will never be the same how they will be captured by your camera. Also, a few several photographers and artists in Flickr are my inspirations when I am running out of such ideas. I love shooting night time urban cityscapes!

What music are you into right now?
>Checking my latest playlist... That would include Sam Sparro, Copeland, My Parasol (check this out! myspace.com/myparasolband, Ida, Orange Range, Feist, Air Supply, Tears for Fears and Led Zeppelin.

Any advice for other Photographers?
>Three S's. Shoot, shoot and shoot. Remember your settings, and the moment you go back home, smile. It can lead you in getting good photographs. Love film always. Be inspired!

How did you get into Photography?
>Way back when I was in high school. I was a library lover back then and found this book about portraits from the past. That interests me on taking photos for good memories sake. I remember taking photos using a cellphone camera and digital SLRs. But since I was a fan of the past (and pretty good I came all the way from the past), I checked on some film shots and that lead me in grabbing an old Olympus XA in one of the camera shops here. I took some photos, and from that moment, I loved how the way a film captures an image rather than a digital.

FIND ME AT:
ethermoon

TAMARA LICHTENSTEIN

Who are you?
Tamara Lichtenstein

What do you do?
I go to school for nursing, and shoot photos on my spare time

Film or Digital?
mostly film
